4#4 2000 silverado problem?

When I try to lock my fourwheel drive in you can hear it make a loud clank sound but the front tires want pull. I tried it in a soft field to see if the front tires would spin but thay did not so I had my friend tie his truck to mine and hold the breaks and still my front tires never spun... For serious people only thanks allot...
