Knitting or crocheting for beginner...?

I've never knitted or crocheted anything in my life. But im going to be having my first child in December and i have alot of time on my hands at work so i was kind of inspired by etsy.com to make some booties and hats for my baby. As a beginner would you suggest knitting or crocheting for me? And will i be able to maek cute little things? Please tell me anthing you can that would help me. I plan on going to ac moore at lunchtime lol. And im really excited!
