Sometimes my car won't start?

You will need to shim the starter. Also, depending how long you've had the problem, you may need to replace the flex plate. this is what the starter gear engages with when you turn the key. What has happened is sometime in the past the starter was replaced, without the original shims. This has caused some of the teeth on the flex plate to become worn and not meshing with the starter.
